Original Articles on Mending, Textiles, Creative Reuse and Rural Life as an Art Mom.
The Craft Column
All things craft. Quietly.
Welcome to my quiet corner of the noisy Internet. This is a new space where I’ll add original articles and essays. Similar to my free newsletter, Love Letters, this space will share intimate, thoughtful writing on handcrafts, textiles, creative reuse, gardening, and living a slower, imperfect, rural life as an art mom. No ads or algorithms here. Just a quiet space. To glean insights on mending and creative practice. And read essays like those in my books, newsletter, and ancient, award-winning blog, Made by Katrina. Pour some tea. Get cozy.
Redwork Embroidery, Vintage Quilts, and Hand-Stitched Birds

However it came to be, I fell down an enchanting rabbit hole of textile research but this time for Redwork embroidery. And then I drew a handful of North American birds and stitched them as Redwork on antique quilts.

I’ve written two mending books: Make Thrift Mend (2021) and Mending Matters (2018). Each book contains 5+ original essays, 20+ step-by-step tutorials, international artist quotes, photographs and more. Available anywhere books are sold.

Mending Books
For the text lovers and poets—sometimes I stitch my original poems into one-of-a-kind textile projects, jackets, or needle books. A nod to my earlier training in poetry and book arts. And an effort to tuck poems into crafter’s pockets, whenever I can.

Join an online class to read more thoughtful writing and written tutorials. My classes range from live sessions to professionally-filmed courses. Live sessions typically include a printable handout and recorded sessions include step-by-step instructions.
