Pileated Woodpecker Redwork Tote

$168.00
Only 1 available

I think of these totes as stitched poems. Quiet. Tender. Soft.

Features a hand-stitched woodpecker in Redwork on an antique quilt top.

These limited-edition bags are truly one-of-a-kind. Each was thoughtfully designed with an unfinished, antique quilt top and then carefully lined with selvedge denim to add rigid structure and utilitarian ease. They combine handcraft with workwear—a favorite pairing. These totes are big enough for laptops, knitting projects, and a packed lunch. A special accessory to add a pop of color and soulful fabrics to any wardrobe. Made with so much love.

Details:

-Hand-drawn, hand-stitched Pileated woodpecker embroidery, stitched by Katrina on a snowy winter day.

-Made with an antique patchwork quilt top; beautiful selvedge cotton denim handles, bottom, and fully-lined with selvedge denim too.

-Each bag has one, wide, generous interior pocket for phone, keys, wallet, or trinkets.

-At the widest points, laid flat, excluding handles, the bags measure approximately 18”x 18”.

-This listing is for the ONE special handbag you see in these photos.

Please note:

There are slight variations in the quilt tops but each offers a piece of textile history—as shown in the photos. Totes are constructed from antique quilt tops in soft fabrics that have seen several lifetimes. Each quilt is gently cleaned before sewn but some minor age spots, evidence of wear, and/or fading is to be expected. Some totes have been hand-mended. Each has passed our high-quality standard but they are antique textiles--this is not an imperfection but an indication of a handcrafted textile. Also, any indigo, denim fabric might fade in sunlight—please consider this a welcome patina.

To clean:

If you need to clean your tote, it will need to be hand-washed in cold water. The quilt top will not withstand machine washing. Use cold water and gentle soap and let it soak. Do not wring or twist. Rinse multiple times, if needed. Lay flat to dry. Iron, if needed. Quilt tops are antiques and might need to be mended with use. The denim is very sturdy and should last a lifetime. Or two.
