Quilt Poem Coat: Stripes, Size S-M
These coats combine poetry, quilts, antiques, art, and sustainable design. They are wearable art objects—a play between craft and design. They’re an experiment in fusing practical denim workwear with poetic embellishments to make very dreamy chore coats for creative folks.
These vintage denim coats span multiple eras but are unified with classic, boxy, barn coat silhouettes. Redesigned and re-imagined with late 1800s antique calico cotton quilt squares and my original poems sewn inside. Each coat is truly one-of-a-kind and meant to be a special gift to give or keep. These coats are wearable hugs from my studio—encouraging everyday creative acts.
SIZE: This is the only striped coat. I adore them all but the stripes on this are super special with the red quilt square. It fits closest to a size S (small) or S-M (small-medium) and measures 21 inches wide across the torso, 29 inches long from collar to bottom hem, and 28.5 inches long on the arm from collar to cuff.
REDESIGN: There is a large antique calico quilt square on the back and a smaller 4-patch square atop the front breast pocket area.
MATERIALS: These denim cotton coats are vintage and pass our high-quality standard but they have some natural signs of wear. All have been inspected, mended if needed, and are in very good condition. The quilt squares are more than 140 years old—what a marvel! They are stable, reinforced with new cotton, and machine-sewn. The poems are hand-printed linen on a custom silkscreen.
That said, this is an artisanal coat that might show minimal age spots on the antiques, fades in the hand-printed poems, or added patina in the denim. These are meant to be proof of the work of our hands and hearts! They are not imperfections, they are natural signs of handcraft and meant to add originality and art. Designed by me and sewn just up the road in Germantown, NY.
CARE: Please wash with care—all denim coats were machine washed before redesign. And all quilt squares were hand washed and air dried. I’d suggest spot clean and air dry as necessary. If you must machine wash, do so with caution and with warm water, very gentle detergent, and a very gentle spin cycle. Air dry. The antique quilt squares would not machine wash well—you might have to mend them if you machine wash.
Spot clean! Air dry. Hang inside out in the sun on a dry, breezy day to freshen up. Enjoy.
